Administrator's Message

Greetings Village School Community!

Welcome back and Happy New Year! We’re hoping your new year started smoothly and shows great potential to be your best year yet. The vibes are right, things are looking good for a fantastic twelve months!

We jumped back into the flow on Tuesday after a productive work day, though work never stopped in the building itself. If you haven’t yet checked out the new flooring downstairs in the middle school wing, take a spin around and take a look.  It’s gorgeous…light and bright and beautiful. Many thanks to Roberto Peralta (also our lead custodial contractor) and his team for completing the job while we were all (mostly) off campus.

I learned recently about a sky phenomenon that I wanted to share as well: The Winter Hexagon. The Winter Hexagon is a large, hexagonal pattern in the sky made up of 1st magnitude stars. I’ve been trying to identify all six stars (Capella, Aldebaran, Rigel, Sirius, Procyon, and Pollux) and I think I’ve got them all. My next hope is to catch a picture of the hexagon while Jupiter, whose elliptical runs straight through center, is caught inside. If I get one, I’ll be sure to share it here.

Thank you for being a part of our community, now and always. It takes a Village and we’re glad that you’re in ours.

Sincerely,

Roz, Shannon, and Andy

Annual Giving Campaign - Merry-Go-Round

This year’s annual giving campaign aims to enhance our playground with a new merry-go-round. Spinning features are popular on most playgrounds for children of all ages.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 for this campaign. The Village School and Village School Foundation will help fund any costs that go beyond this level. The proposed changes will bring more excitement and fun for students on the playground. We hope you will join us in our efforts to provide new playground equipment at The Village School. You can support the campaign if you go to Annualgiving.us or follow the QR code below:

This upgrade is part of a larger plan to improve the asphalt playing area, a ramp allowing ADA access to the playground, climbing features by the sand play area, an expanded obstacle course, and trails around the playground. If you would like to know more about or help support any of these improvements, please let us know.

January Birthdays

Study Hall Field Trip

The middle school study hall enrichment looks forward to a twice a year Hideaway Bakery excursion. Ms. Shannon led the happy group to the cozy cafe for some time to relax with sweet treats.

Village Kitchen

We are back at it in the Village School Kitchen!

Today, Farmer Jack from Upriver Organics, delivered salad mix and kale. Nina and Hero from the 8th grade helped put the delivery away. When considering kale, Nina shared: "What I like about kale is when you put the right dressings on it; it is really really good." Hero shared: "What I love about kale is how flavorful and crunchy it is in salads."

Yesterday, some of our 6th grade friends enjoyed afternoon kitchen time, helping us prep for future meals. Finn carefully measured out the dry ingredients for a blueberry muffin mix and Luka chopped some spicy fresno peppers which we will ferment for a vibrant hot sauce later this month.

We are looking for a few more regular helping hands on Wednesday and Friday mornings, as well as a lunch service helper every other Wednesday starting in February. Please reach out if joining our school kitchen team seems like a fun way to get some volunteer hours in!

Fire Safety

There is little that our Executive Director, Andy will not do for the Village School, including making sure the lint vent for our drying machine is sparkling clean!

Winter Weather

Winter weather is here! Here is some key information families need to know.

When hazardous weather is a concern, decisions regarding schedule changes are made in the early morning, before school, when current weather conditions can be assessed. We follow the 4J District's lead for delays and closures. However, if they choose not to close, we may assess our area, and make our own decision.

Our main concern is the safety of our students and staff. We also believe students and families are best served when schools are open. We will always do our best to make the best decision possible, taking into account all of the factors.

If there is a change in the school schedule, it will be announced normally before 6:30 a.m., by phone and email message.

NO NEWS = NO CHANGE. If there is a change in the school schedule due to inclement weather, we will announce the change.

LTD buses may also be delayed or detoured when there is ice or snow on the ground. Detour information will be posted on the LTD website, www.ltd.org, and publicized to local news media.

Delayed Starts and Early Dismissal: We generally will avoid delayed starts and early dismissal due to weather. However, it is possible that unpredictable or sudden weather conditions will require such a decision to be made. Delayed start times will not alter school dismissal times.

Parent Choice: On any day when inclement weather is a concern and school is in session, families are encouraged to consider road conditions in their areas and make their own decisions based on safety. Please call the office if your child will be absent. Parents’ individual decisions about school attendance for this reason will be honored.

*Be aware: It is impossible to guarantee phone and email message delivery 100% of the time, and your alert may be delayed or blocked. If you are concerned about the weather and have not received a text alert by 6:30 a.m., check the 4J website, radio or TV for information about closures and delays and THEN CHECK THE VILLAGE SCHOOL WEBSITE. At times, our lot and incoming roads are untenable and we may need to call a delay or closure when 4j does not.
