Village Voice - Volume 25, Issue 36

Administrator's Message

Greetings Village School Community!

WOW! What a week!! We had a fabulous Spring Concert and a beautiful Rose Ceremony with a prediction of high success rates for our 2026 8th grade graduates! What a gleaming crew!!

Speaking of gleaming: The planet Venus passes through a famous cluster called the Beehive tonight and tomorrow night–one great glittering diamond slowly meandering through dozens of tiny glittering diamonds. On June 18th, it will be within one degree of the cluster, so if you have binoculars, this would be a great night to take a look. There is also a Micro Strawberry Moon coming up on June 29th. I love the name Micro Strawberry for a moon.

The fact that Venus is so prominent in the skies right now is very fitting for our school. The pattern in our school logo is the path traced by the midpoint between Venus and the Earth, with the Sun in the center, over eight years Earth time. (Check out this Youtube Video). We chose this design because it flowed so well with our focus on holism–the head, the heart, and the hands–of each child. Venus has long been associated with love and the heart, the Earth symbolizes humanity and the hands, and the Sun represents innovation and higher thought, or the head. That it takes eight years for Venus and Earth to trace this perfect, beautiful shape fits impeccably with the path our students take throughout the grades here at the Village School. Eight years ago, Venus, Earth, and the Sun began one new iteration of the figure in our logo and are now just weeks away from completion, just as our eighth grade students are readying themselves for graduation. Two paths nearly completed, with new adventures on the horizon. (Big thanks to Roz for proposing this shape for the logo back in 2017! - AP)

We are so proud of our graduates and of all of our students still orbiting our campus! We will miss our eighth grade students, but we know you are moving on toward great things.

Thank you for showing up and for always lighting our way forward!

Sincerely,

Roz, Shannon, and Andy

School Climate Survey

Please check you email for an invitation to take our annual School Climate Survey. An email has been sent out to all parent/guardians in our enrollment system. The survey is set up so that you can respond once for all of your students. The information from the surveys helps us inform us of areas where we shine and where we need to improve. We hope you all will take time to participate. Please let us know at office@eugenevillageschool.org if you did not receive a survey.

8th Grade Trip

Our 8th Graders had quite the adventure on their 4 day / 3 night trip to TwinRocks camp near Tillamook. In addition to the great outdoor activities, there are several important rites-of-passage that make the event exceptional and memorable for all students.

What an amazing year of Handwork classes! Here are some gorgeous finished projects.

If you are looking for ways to support families at risk and in fear due to the increasing presence of ICE in our community, please consider donating to Escudo Latino.  They are working long hours and playing an important role in supporting those who need it most right now.  Thank you!
