Administrator's Message
Greetings Village School Community!
For this weeks admin message, I’d like to share this, my new favorite winter poem of all time:
The Darkling Thrush
By Thomas Hardy
I leant upon a coppice gate
When Frost was spectre-grey,
And Winter's dregs made desolate
The weakening eye of day.
The tangled bine-stems scored the sky
Like strings of broken lyres,
And all mankind that haunted nigh
Had sought their household fires.
The land's sharp features seemed to be
The Century's corpse outleant,
His crypt the cloudy canopy,
The wind his death-lament.
The ancient pulse of germ and birth
Was shrunken hard and dry,
And every spirit upon earth
Seemed fervourless as I.
At once a voice arose among
The bleak twigs overhead
In a full-hearted evensong
Of joy illimited;
An aged thrush, frail, gaunt, and small,
In blast-beruffled plume,
Had chosen thus to fling his soul
Upon the growing gloom.
So little cause for carolings
Of such ecstatic sound
Was written on terrestrial things
Afar or nigh around,
That I could think there trembled through
His happy good-night air
Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew
And I was unaware.
Though we aren’t quite to winter’s dregs just yet, with winter break still ahead on the horizon, we’re wishing you blessed Hope in unexpected places!
Sincerely,
Roz, Shannon, and Andy

Handwork Raffle
Please support our handwork program by buying tickets for the raffle of items made by the handwork teachers. All proceeds go to buy extra tools and materials not covered by our budget. Items will be on display in the office and winners will be announced at the winter concert.
They cost $2 a piece or 3 for $5.
Tickets will be available for purchase one hour before the concert. You can also buy tickets in advance in the handwork classroom (room 108) on Mondays and Wednesdays between 2:45-3:00. Cash and checks preferred.
Thank you,

Village School Kitchen

Right before break we had the pleasure of welcoming some former Village School students into our kitchen. Thank you Maddie, Isadora, Rosie and Kaia for volunteering last week!

Kiwi season has begun and the students were excited to see them back on the salad bar this week. Today's eighth grade helpers, Braddock and Kellen, both like kiwis. Kellen likes them because "they taste good and all their health benefits." Braddock says "I like the skins. I don't know why."
We aim to boost everyone's immune system through a variety of healthy foods every school day!
