Administrator's Message
Greetings Village School Community!
Woohoo! Fall on campus is such an awesome time. The energy here is crackling like a Samhain fire under a witch's enchanted brew! Check out this photo of a second grader giving a mushroom some mushroom hats:

Math night went so well last night! Students and families practiced their math skills, ate pizza, and made memories. Thank you to Sally Grismrud and Mathnasium of Eugene for organizing this great Title I sponsored event. See below for some sweet photos!
We hope that you’re staying safe and cozy! Thanks for being such a fantastic, flexible, and fun community!
Sincerely,
Roz, Shannon, and Andy
Community Service Walk-a-Thon!
Please bring in your walkathon pledge money! We have exceeded our goal and are now seeing numbers approaching $16,500. Half of this will help The Village Kitchen our partnering environmental education organizations. Pledge packets are available in the office and you can also collect donations with our Online Pledge System: VillageWalkathon.org.
Here are the totals so far for each class.

Thank you ever so much for your participation!
Volunteering at the Village School
Be sure to watch your email, the Village Voice and the Village Vine for messages from Village Community Council, your class coordinator, your child's teacher and the Village School Kitchen, to see the volunteer needs that are coming up for you to take part in.
We are looking for volunteers Día de los Muertos. We will need many helping hands for this evening. Sign up here for volunteering! and here to contribute to the Potluck!
We are looking for a Kitchen Volunteer to help out on Mondays from 11:30-1:00! Please let Toña know if you can help. She can be reached at taguilar@eugenevillageschool.org or 541-510-8604.
We ask families to contribute 30-40 hours of volunteer hours per year, and single parent households to contribute 15-20 hours. All parents who have filled out a volunteer packet have been entered into our online volunteer system, HelpCounter. *Please always make sure to sign in at the office computer, grab a volunteer badge, and sign back out at the office computer when you volunteer. Please make sure to sign in whether you are a volunteer or visitor.
Reach out to chrissy@eugenevillageschool.org or 541-345-7285 with any questions about volunteering!
Village Kitchen
It has been a great week in our school kitchen!
On Monday, we made some super special cornbread muffins thanks to the positive contribution of many helping hands. In the spring, our garden coordinator, Taylor, planted Montana Morado Maize, a unique variety of corn high in anthocyanins. The bed it was grown in was built with compost from the Love Food Not Waste Program. The corn grew tall and strong over the summer, producing long, straight ears of dark purple fruit which were harvested at the end of summer then dried. Third grade students pulled the kernels off the cobs and ground them in a hand cranked mill. Taylor then milled the cracked corn into finer flour which we used to make cornbread muffins for lunch. Students and staff noticed the distinct color difference from our normal cornbread muffins and asked for us to make them again.
We also started a batch of beautiful kimchi thanks to the help of Village School Kitchen Volunteer, Morgan. Purple daikon radishes and nante carrots from Wintergreen Farm added some lovely color to the napa cabbage, scallions and peppers which create a healthy condiment that should be ready in a couple weeks.

1st & 8th Grade Field Trip
The 1st graders took a field trip with their 8th grade buddies to A&M farms, where they got to pick pumpkins and meet some sweet farm animals.
Math Night
Math night was really well attended and students had a great time playing over 12 different games requiring math planning and logic skills. Thanks to Mathnasium which brought its equipment and many volunteers, and to the Village School staff and volunteers that made the event happen so easily.
