Administrator's Message
Greetings Village School Community!
What a glorious last week before Spring Break! The sun is shining, the buds are popping, and the gold green is shimmering in wild waves. As part of our educational mission, we encourage parents to get out of the house and enjoy the outdoors with family, especially during Spring break. We in the Southern Willamette Valley are blessed with an abundance of parks, natural areas, trails and gorgeous rivers. Many resources are right here in our community like Mount Pisgah, Alton Baker Park, Delta Ponds, Spencer's Butte and the Ridgeline trails, and so many more within an hour's drive. With a little patience, there's also a lot of wonderful wildlife to be seen. These were taken just last weekend within Eugene city limits.
In celebration of Spring we'd also like to share with you The Year's Awakening, by Thomas Hardy
How do you know that the pilgrim track
Along the belting zodiac
Swept by the sun in his seeming rounds
Is traced by now to the Fishes’ bounds
And into the Ram, when weeks of cloud
Have wrapt the sky in a clammy shroud,
And never as yet a tinct of spring
Has shown in the Earth’s apparelling;
O vespering bird, how do you know,
How do you know?
How do you know, deep underground,
Hid in your bed from sight and sound,
Without a turn in temperature,
With weather life can scarce endure,
That light has won a fraction’s strength,
And day put on some moments’ length,
Whereof in merest rote will come,
Weeks hence, mild airs that do not numb;
O crocus root, how do you know,
How do you know?
Hope you all have a great Spring Break. Remember that classes resume on Tuesday April 7th.

State Testing
Spring brings with it OSAS testing… Parents may submit an opt-out form at any time. Preferably the forms are submitted to Angelique in the Village School Office, on paper or via email (angelique.brennan@eugenevillageschool.org) 30 days prior to the administration of the tests. If you have any questions please send an email to principal@eugenevillgeschool.org.
Here are the opt out forms:
We’re hoping you have some fun plans: travel, rest, play, eat, read, breathe in some fresh air, whatever. I’ll leave you with another poem by a favorite of mine:
OBOB
Congrats to the Cosmic Cats!
On Saturday, March 7 the OBOB team Cosmic Cats, made up of fourth graders Addy Farr, Kalila Hopkins, Lena Sell, and Theia Stacy competed in the Oregon Battle of the Books Regional Tournament. They did extremely well and made it all the way to the final four.

Awesome job Cosmic Cats! The Cosmic Cats advanced to the regional by winning the Village School OBOB battles that took place last month.
Positive Praise for Purple Platypi Pie!

The 6th/7th grade team of Vivian Schatz, Ama Lam, Sagan Rountree, and Serena Madzik represented the Village School at the 6-8 Regional tournament last Saturday at Kelly Middle School. They faced four other local teams and answered many (difficult!) questions correctly, and had a great time. They worked very well as a team and met reading goals. We are positively proud of you Purple Platypi Pie!
Three cheers for all our OBOB participants this year!
I am very proud of the hard work all our OBOB participants did this year. They read several new books, learned sportsmanship skills, and had fun with friends.

It warms our hearts to have volunteers like 5th Grade Mom, Lori Katz. Here she is helping us prepare peppers for our salad bar.
Village School Wellness Policy
During the fall of 2025 a committee of staff and administration completed a triennial assessment of our school's wellness policy. The assessment work was completed by an ad hoc committee consisting of all administrators, including our Child Nutrition Manager, office staff, wellness coordinator, three teachers and a school parent. Invitations for involvement were shared at the September 2025 Village School Community Council meeting and in the September 2, 2025 school newsletter. The committee met three times over the course of a month to review the school wellness policy, complete the triennial assessment and update the policy. They presented their findings at the all staff meeting on October 2, 2025 for additional feedback. The triennial assessment and updated policy were presented at the November 18 2025 Village School Board Meeting for review. The board unanimously approved the updates.
Here are links to our old policy, our triennial assessment document and our updated policy.
The Wellness Policy committee meets once per school year. Compliance is monitored by the Village School Administration.
