Administrator's Message
Greetings Village School Community!
Week two, and the days are finally getting longer! The nights have been so dark and quiet and beautiful this past week–misty and cold with a few stars and planets piercing through–but we are definitely looking forward to spring evening walks.
We’ve got some big community events coming up! Grandfriend’s Day and Heart of the Village are scheduled for the 9th and 10th of February. We still need lots of volunteers for Heart of the Village! This is the biggest event that we put on at the Village School and it generates funds for Parent Council that are disseminated throughout the whole school. Please let Chrissy Barry know if you are interested in helping with the awesome event!
You may have noticed that we are starting to make some deeper assessments into our campus safety. There are some immediate changes we’ve made toward creating a safer environment including locking the west facing door to the office and the south facing door to the commons during the school day. This is meant to reduce access to internal rooms in the building as well as to direct traffic in a more manageable way. We have more plans in the works in the coming months toward campus safety and we will be rolling those out as they develop.
Thank you for being such a fantastic school community! We are, as always, grateful for your presence and good vibes.
Cheers,
Roz, Shannon, and Andy
Annual Giving Campaign
Funds for the new pyramid climber on our playground are reaching higher, getting closer to our goal of $20,000 with $4,300 raised so far. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far! The Village School and Village School Foundation will help fund any costs that go beyond this level. You can donate by card without fees or by check. We hope you will join us in bringing more excitement and fun for students on the playground.
Importance of 100% Participation: Unlike regular district schools, The Village School receives no dedicated funding for facilities improvements. With the expenditure of the last pandemic funds, we will be relying more on local grants & donations for facilities improvements. If everyone contributes, regardless of amount, this helps grantors know that our school is appreciated by our community and thus worthy of their grants.
More work on the playground: Please note that several other improvements to the playground are also anticipated in the near future including expansion and upgrades to the asphalt playing area, a ramp allowing ADA access to the playground, climbing features by the sand play area, a dry creek bed, and more. If you would like to know more about or help support any of these improvements, please let us know.
5th Grade State Reports
The 5th graders have been working hard on their state reports. Take a look at the slideshow below to see their beautiful state maps.
Kitchen News
Last week we had one of our two yearly surprise health inspections. As usual, we passed with flying colors. "You are doing a great job here." the inspector let us know before he headed out for the day.
Thank you Ryleigh, Eliana and Lilah from the 4th grade for creating the menu board for today's lunch!
We love welcoming small groups of students into the kitchen to help with a few tasks on some afternoons. The children have the opportunity to learn kitchen tasks and terminology. One example is what the term "tare" means. Students get to learn how to tare using our kitchen scale and a container before measuring ingredients out.

You can also engage with Village School families on the Parent Council Facebook page, The Village Vine!
Volunteering
Please reach out to chrissy@eugenevillageschool.org with any questions about volunteering! We ask families to contribute 40 hours of volunteer hours per year, and single parent households to contribute 20 hours. If you would like to know how many volunteer hours you have accumulated this year, please let Chrissy know. There are many events coming up, as well as classroom and kitchen opportunities that can help to meet these hours.
Heart of the Village will be held on Saturday, February 10th. Stay tuned for more information about volunteering opportunities for this fantastic fundraising event!
Another way to contribute to our school community is by attending Parent Council Meetings! We will be holding our next meeting on Tuesday, January 9th at 6pm in the Village School Library. If you would like to attend virtually, here is the Zoom link
*Please make sure to sign in, grab a volunteer badge, and sign out at the office when you volunteer.
