Administrator's Message

Dear Village School Families

Last week the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and Oregon Health Authority (OHA) released new guidance regarding face coverings and school related activities. The changes allow for school districts and charter schools to loosen some requirements at outdoor events and for fully vaccinated adults when students are not present. ODE and OHA have made it clear that individual districts and charter schools may continue to require masks universally at all times.

The Village School Health and Safety Committee has carefully discussed and determined the following:

There is no change for students during the school day.

Students will continue wearing face masks during the school day, both indoors and outdoors, including during recess and at arrival and dismissal times.

With ten in-person days and two CDL days remaining for this school year, our committee decided to continue with the same protocols for students to wear face coverings. This provides our students and staff with consistency and predictability. It also means no disruption to the limited learning time the students have on campus and no need to master new protocols regarding safe mask removal and storage during recess time.

The out-of-state travel question has been removed from the daily screening questions

The out-of-state travel question was a recommended question and not a required question. We have decided it is no longer necessary to ask that question at this time. We will continue to ask the other screening questions.

Appreciations

Our school has not had any COVID-positive cases on campus to date. There has been no school spread with face masks and other health and safety measures in place. We are thankful for your contribution to keeping sick children at home and supporting our safety protocols. Your attention to this has helped keep our school community safe.

Sincerely,

Bob & Andy.

Age 12 and Older Vaccination Clinics

There are still plenty of appointments available at our COVID vaccine clinics on June 1st and June 8th for anyone 12 years of age or older. And now at each of these clinics one lucky 12-17 year old will win a $100 gift card donated by an LCC RN faculty member! These clinics will be hosted by the Lane Community College Health Clinic and will be held indoors on the main campus of LCC. Anyone 15 years old and older can consent to their own vaccination but people under the age of 15 years of age must be accompanied by one parent or guardian (due to space limitations each person being vaccinated may have a maximum of one person with them if needed for reasons of the consent). The vaccine being administered at these events will be Pfizer.

Here is more information about COVID 19 vaccinations and adolescents https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/recommendations/adolescents.html Link for June 1 schedule https://signup.com/go/rjCRQnt Link for June 8 schedule https://signup.com/go/WRKEuSe

P-EBT Benefits

The State is offering EBT-cards in the amounts shown below for families that either receive SNAP benefits or qualify for federal free and reduced meals. We will be submitting data to the state based on income information supplied to us. The amount provided equals:

  • A full benefit amount of $136 for 6 months (October 2020 - March 2021: months we were primarily doing remote learning), plus

  • A partial benefit amount of $75 for 2 months (April - May: months we were doing hybrid learning model).

If you did not submit a free and reduced application to The Village School, now may be a good time to do so. You can apply via the state's online portal https://www.ode.state.or.us/apps/FRLApp/Default/Apply or fill out the following application and give it to us in the office. Click here for more information.

Please note: qualifying for P-EBT benefits is based on the federal income standards, which are more restrictive than the recently passed State income standards.

Village School Summer Program

Thank you to all of you who showed interest in our Summer Program by completing the interest survey! I now need you to complete the official registration form. This form will supply us with the required information about your child, including emergency contact information, health related needs, etc.

If you did not complete the interest survey but have decided to register your child, that's great! There is no need to complete the previous survey.

I look forward to seeing you this summer,

Shannon Powell Summer Program Director

Camille, age 8, and Taylor, age 10, enjoy their dinner of ramen soup last week:

Their mama, Angelique, wrote "Tonight we are making ramen. I had some cartons of Trader Joe's Miso Ginger broth. We added the ramen you provided along with the bok choy, ginger, garlic and peppers. My kids are meat eaters so we are gonna throw in some frozen meatballs we had and dinner will be easy and delicious. I like easy and delicious and if it's healthy then that's a bonus. Yum Yum!!!!"

Have a great week!

Warmly, Toña Aguilar The Village School Eugene, Oregon w - 541-345-7285

Library News

WANTED: Village School Library books!

I need your help getting back Village School library books that were checked out last year. Some students still had books checked out when in-person school ended in March, and several families came in and checked out books while school was closed. Please check around your home for any books that belong to the Village School. They will have a label on the back that says “The Village School” with a barcode. If your child participated in OBOB this year, now is the time to return OBOB books.

There will be a bin outside the office to return books, or your child can give them to their teacher. If you cannot get them back to school, please let me know and we can make other arrangements to have books picked up. Please also contact me if you know books have been damaged or lost. Thank you for your help keeping our library stocked with amazing books!
