Administrator's Message

Greetings Village School Community!

Wow, did the weather turn this week! Just in time for the eerie and supernatural goings on that will befall us all in the next weeks! Glowing pumpkins, gray creeping fog, sugar skulls, flickering candles, crunching leaves, clacking bones, and wind brushing through the treetops…everything is whispering “The veil is thin! Gather your kin and hold them close!”

Our staff have begun preparations for the Halloween celebration and even more exciting, for our Dia de Los Muertos gathering! Sugar skulls are being prepped, posters are printed, music is being lined up, papel picado is being cut, and pan de muerto is being prepared! Also, I recently read an essay written by an eighth grader honoring her cat who passed away and it was so beautiful.

We have many opportunities for parents to volunteer at this event! It’s an event not to be missed. Please see below or check in the office for more information.

Lastly, there’s still time to get your Walk-a-Thon donations in! No time like the present.

Hoping you’re staying warm and dry!

Sincerely,

Roz, Shannon, and Andy

We are still collecting pledges from our online venue VillageWalkathon.org and from the pledge packets. Please stop by the office if you need more materials. So far we have reached $16,700. To determine the prize for the class that raises the most money, please turn in your materials by Friday October 25th. At the moment, totals for grades 2, 3 and 4 are very close!

Here's the prize for the class that raises the most money, a globe made of semi precious stones:

Thank you very much for your participation - and thanks to all of our volunteers who helped make this such a successful, enjoyable event!

Volunteer Needs

Día de los Muertos is our next big all school celebration, and it is swiftly approaching! This is an event that is free to attend, and filled with an array of crafts, face painting, and student and community performances. Please see the sign up sheets for volunteering and potluck contributions below.

We ask families to contribute 40 hours of volunteer hours per year, and single parent households to contribute 20 hours. This event is a great way to build on your volunteer hours!

*Please make sure to always sign in, grab a volunteer badge, and sign out at the office when you volunteer!

You're welcome to reach out to chrissy@eugenevillageschool.org with any questions about volunteering!

Family Directory

Copies of the Family Directory are now available in the office. You are welcome to stop by and pick one up!

5th Grade Field Trip

The 5th Graders had a lovely visit to Hendricks Park, which was in full autumn swing!

Village Kitchen

Less sunlight and colder temps mean many of the late summer crops have ended and autumn produce is coming in! This week we served Oregon grown beets, carrots, winter squash, pears and salad mix. Thank you new parent volunteer Dan for preparing 45 lbs of delicata for roasting.

Fill Your Pantry orders are open! Every year, FYP provides a unique opportunity for folks to support the local food system and increase their winter self-sufficiency at the same time. You can place online preorders from local farmers for storage crops, pantry staples, meat and specialty items such as applesauce and pickles. SNAP, Debit and Credit are accepted.

Students have discovered that the nasturtiums blooming in our kitchen herb bed are edible. Third grade student, Fitz, tried one today and said "It's good!"

With gratitude,

Toña Aguilar

Día de los Muertos

3rd & 7th Grade Buddies

3rd and 7th grade buddies got a head start on making Ojos de Díos for Día de los Muertos! Last week, they celebrated Michaelmas with various skill rally activities.

Sports Bras Giveaway

On Friday, 10/25 the Village Scholl will be giving away sports bras to our students in grades 3 - 8. These are brand new bras that were donated to us by the organization Bras for Girls. Please see the link below for more information on this wonderful organization!

3 - 5th graders will be able to "shop" with a parent after school in our school counselor, Rebecca's room (next to the office). Middle schoolers will have an opportunity to choose a bra during the school day on Friday if they would like to. If you are the parent of a 3rd - 5th grader, and would like a new sports bra for your child, you are welcome to stop by on Friday from 3:00 to 3:30pm.

1st & 8th Grade Field Trip to A&M Farms

Title I STEM Event

The Eugene Science Center brought several physical science concepts to life, including the planets, cyano-photography, and more for our students grades 1 through 5.

Title I Reading/Math Services, 2024-2025

Every fall, winter and spring, our Title staff and classroom teachers administer reading and math assessments to each of our students.  If a student in grades 1-5 scores below the 30th percentile, she/he may be recommended by our team to receive instructional interventions in reading and/or math with their progress monitored.  At The Village School, all students receive up to 90 minutes of language arts and 60 minutes of math instruction each day.  If your child will be receiving additional reading or math instruction, his or her classroom teacher or the Title I coordinator will notify you. Please see the links below for additional information.
