Administrators' Message

Dear Village School Families,

We want to shed a little light on the announcement made last week by Governor Kate Brown. She announced her intention to issue a mandate that all school districts and charter schools offer In-Person Hybrid Instruction by March 29 (elementary) and April 19 (secondary). In response to this mandate, our reopening committee has moved up our timeline to bring students on campus a little earlier than originally planned. Students will be allowed to remain in full-time Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), if they choose.

Later this week you will receive more information from us about how we are forming the Cohorts for grades 3-8 and Kindergarten (The Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday groups). In addition, we expect official health and safety updates when the governor’s announcement is formalized.

Revised timeline for In-Person Hybrid Instruction

  • FIRST and SECOND GRADE

Monday, March 15: 1st and 2nd Grades will begin In-Person Hybrid Instruction

Wednesday, March 10 & Thursday, March 11: Teachers will provide asynchronous instructional materials for the students. The teachers will spend all of their working hours preparing for In-Person Hybrid Instruction that will begin on March 15.

  • THIRD, FOURTH, FIFTH and SIXTH GRADE

Thursday, April 8: 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade will begin In-Person Hybrid Instruction.

  • SEVENTH and EIGHTH GRADE

Monday, April 12: 7th and 8th grade will begin In-Person Hybrid Instruction.

  • KINDERGARTEN

Wednesday, April 7: Kindergarten will begin outdoor learning instructional model

Monday, April 19: Kindergarten will begin the hybrid model

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT APRIL 5 and 6

  • For Grades 3-8, and Kindergarten teachers will provide asynchronous learning materials for those two days. They will also spend their working hours preparing for in-person hybrid instruction as well as comprehensive distance learning materials for students that chose to stay home.

  • Grades 1 and 2 will be In-Person Hybrid school day. (These grades start hybrid instruction the week of March 15)

Creating a safe learning environment and mitigating the spread of the COVID-19 is still our primary goal as students return to campus. With your help we shall all continue to follow the protocols for slowing the spread of the disease. We can’t drop our guard now, we must faithfully follow the three W’s. Wear a mask; Watch your distance; Wash hands frequently.

Sincerely,

Bob & Andy

Outdoor Classroom - Near Completion

One of the silver linings of the pandemic is that it has allowed us to get a lot of facilities work done while families are at home. The outdoor classroom is coming together thanks to the work of Justin Ross, 3rd grade parent, and owner of Nest Egg Development. He has received volunteer help from Mike Scarola, 4th and 1st grade grandfather, Rountree, 10th, 7th and 2nd grade parent, and Thomas Nesbit, father of K-8 alumni who graduated in 2011 and 2014. The architecture work was donated by Mike Magee, board member and father of 2018 alumnus, and the site planning by Kristina Koenig, kinder parent. Thanks to all for your work. The outdoor classroom is looking beautiful.

Village School Kitchen

Dear Families!

Please join me in cooking up an Indian Feast for your family this week!

We will be sending out recipes and some of the main ingredients for a variety of dishes such as dal, raita, aloo gobi, and naan. Big thanks to Village School mom (and birthday lady) Bethany Kaiser for spending a few hours on a sunny Sunday helping to put together spice bags. The spice mix contains a blend of coriander, turmeric, cumin, and ginger all from Mountain Rose Herbs. Tucked inside each spice envelope is a dried bird's eye pepper. Though small, they are spicy, so make sure to pull it out if your family isn't fond of heat.

We were touched by the many thoughtful emails we received from various families this past week sharing what their children look forward to finding in their weekly food bags. Quite a few of you let me know that the children particularly enjoy eating fruit they don't typically get. This inspired me to include an unusual citrus in this week's bags. I wish I could see their faces when they find a Buddha's Hand tomorrow!

We also enjoyed receiving a few photos and watching a ballad performed by the Fogelson/Orion family. Check out their masterful performance on the school's Village Vine Facebook page!

There is still more Yogi Tea left. Don't hesitate to reach out if you would like us to bag you up more to enjoy at home.

Be well, Toña Aguilar
