Administrators' Message
Dear Families.
Thanks to the many parents that have already sent in your answer as to whether you will choose the hybrid or CDL model for your child. All responses are due by March 8.
Please check your email for the Hybrid vs CDL Decision survey if you have not already done so. And please feel free to email us at office@eugenevillageschool.org if you have any questions to assist you in making your choice.
We want to clarify a question about the hybrid model and afternoon instruction. If your child attends school in-person in the hybrid program from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and the teacher presents required classes scheduled in the afternoon, those will be CDL classes. Depending on the teacher those afternoon classes could also be small group work sessions or teacher/student check-in times. Granted, there may be special cases when students come to campus for tutoring or small group work in the afternoon and this will be set up by the teacher on a case-by-case basis, but won’t be part of the regular hybrid schedule.
Another area of concern is, what if a child in hybrid needs to take time away from in-person learning and stay home for a medical or other reason? The child will be able to continue instruction participating via CDL and when the time is right and personal conditions have changed they will be able to return to hybrid.
Please remember children that choose CDL must remain in CDL. Due to fulfilling our staffing needs and managing a safe facility we need precise numbers as to which students initially choose hybrid or CDL.
If you want to review our plans to ventilate the classrooms rooms please click this link.
We have provided some definitions that may help to navigate the course we are all setting upon as we make our gradual transition to hybrid learning or continuing CDL.
Thank you for your patience and support during these unusual times. And, thank you for keeping true to the three W’s at all times: Wear a mask; Watch your distance; Wash hands.
Sincerely,
Bob & Andy
Timely School Terminology
CDL - Comprehensive Distance Learning is on-line learning using computers or devices to connect between teacher and child.
Hybrid School - is a combination of in-person, on campus learning and the use of computers or devices for on-line learning.
Simulcasting or Live-streaming - is when a teacher delivers instruction to a group of children on campus and is also sharing that instruction live via zoom to students at home that choose to remain in CDL.
Synchronous Learning - is a term used to describe instruction and learning that occur at the same time, but not in the same place
Asynchronous Learning - does not require real-time interaction; instead, content is available online for students to access when it best suits their schedules. The content is specifically selected by the teacher and is part of their delivery of instruction.
Teacher Facilitated Learning - Simulcasting, live-streaming, synchronous and asynchronous learning are all considered teacher facilitated learning.
Applied Learning - is when a student is completing their assignments or students are learning by engaging in direct application of skills, theories and models.

Village School Kitchen
Happy March!
Besides the usual fruit, bread, and eggs, you will find the ingredients to make a yummy stir fry for your family this week. We have gluten-free ramen noodles from Lotus Foods, tofu from Surata, and a bounty of beautiful vegetables such as baby bok choy, ginger, broccoli, yellow straight-neck squash, and mini sweet bell peppers. Look for recipe ideas in this week's kitchen email!
My current favorite vegetable is the watermelon radish. Ask your child to search their food bag for this item tomorrow. Before you cut them open, ask why it might be called a watermelon radish. These are so beautiful they will tempt even the most radish wary! Slice them in thin rounds thinly and let them soak in cold water for an hour for an ethereal ruffled look and mild flavor.
We still have lots of Yogi tea bags left so don't hesitate to reach out if you find a certain variety or two your family likes. We'd love to send more your way if you will drink it.
If you are planning a trip out of town during Spring Break and would like to skip a week or two of food bag deliveries, don't forget to email me as soon as you can so I can order food accordingly.
Warmly,
Toña
