Administrators' Message

Dear Village School Families

We hope you are doing well considering the uncertainty of these times. Please continue to reach out to your classroom teacher or the office staff if you have particular needs that we might be able to help you and your child with.

In the past, we stated we might bring one or two classes on campus on February 8. At this

time, we are going to continue comprehensive distance learning for all grades, but continue working on considerations for reopening. The Village School reopening committee is working closely with our primary teachers to:

  • Track the advisory county metrics,

  • Consider the needs of our staff,

  • Remain up-to-date on the latest information about the virus and its variants,

  • Monitor the rollout of vaccinations,

  • Review the required regulations in Ready Schools Safe Learners RSSL,

  • Determine how we can best use our school building and grounds to bring a limited number of students on to campus.

We hope to make an announcement next week as to how that might look.

We are also working on how and when to provide some optional after-school programs. When this happens, these programs will be considered an enrichment and won’t be linked directly to the Village School curriculum. Our after-school program will begin with Whole Earth Coyote Kids after the first week of February. Please watch for follow-up communications on after-school program choices.

We appreciate the patience and understanding all our families have been sharing with our teachers and staff. We are determined to take incremental and safe steps to gradually bring small groups of children on to campus.

Sincerely

Bob & Andy

Sibling Enrollment Forms

If you would like to enroll one of your children in the Village School for 2021-22, please complete the attached form for sibling enrollment and return by January 28th. The form can be filled out online, saved, and emailed back to us. This form is not required for students who are already enrolled in the Village School.

Village School Kitchen

We hope you enjoyed making blueberry muffins at home this past week! It was fun to receive some photos of students with their baked goods. Here is third-grader Pax with his muffins.

This week you will find coconut milk, chickpeas, cauliflower, golden rose rice and a packet of curry spices along with a recipe to make another curry. Jalapeños will be provided as well for those who want an extra warming kick on one of these rainy days ahead.

Our friends at Organically Grown Company are sharing some of the very many citrus varieties they carry with the kitchen. We will have fun choosing our favorites so we can send them your way soon for a citrus tasting in your own home! Warmly,

Toña

Library News

WANTED: Village School Library books!

I need your help getting back Village School library books that were checked out last year. Some students still had books checked out when in-person school ended in March, and several families came in and checked out books while school was closed.

Please check around your home for any books that belong to the Village School. They will have a label on the back that says “The Village School” with a barcode.

An example of the Village School Barcode

There will be a bin outside the office to return books. If you cannot get them back to school, please let me know and we can make other arrangements to have books picked up.

Please also contact me if you know books have been damaged or lost. Thank you for your help keeping our library stocked with amazing books!

If your child started participating in OBOB and received a Village School Library book at home but no longer wants to participate, please return the books to school.

Next week we will start preparing to practice battling! Next week will be the last week OBOB will be "open" to new participants.

Parent Council

Parent Council will be having our next meeting on Wednesday, February 10th. Please join us and send questions and ideas about the current school year and how we can support our school community to parentcouncil@eugenevillageschool.org.

Zoom link:

The notes from our last meeting can be found here.

Every Village School parent and guardian is a part of Parent Council - you do not have to be a class representative to attend meetings or to contribute ideas. Every parent is invited to Parent Council meetings when they occur. We hope you will soon be able to come to meet with other caring and committed parents who want to share ideas, build our school community, and contribute to the vitality, growth, and evolution of OUR VILLAGE SCHOOL!

Engage with us on Facebook!

The Village Vine is a collective community forum for the Parent Council which includes all families of the Village School. This is a place for sharing information regarding our school and respectful discussion in support of our children and in support of each other as parents. This is a space to connect and build OUR VILLAGE community. There are some new and adjusted guidelines that will be posted in the group so be sure to make sure to check those out! Please feel welcome to post and share in that spirit. We are currently looking for Moderators and an Admin who can help support the rules and guidelines of the Village Vine.
