Principal's Message

Dear Village School Families,

I hope you had a safe and enjoyable three day weekend in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is a busy week in terms of news. Of course, on the national level, there is the inaugural ceremony for the 46th President of the United States, Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. At the state level, the Oregon Department of Education released a set of revised guidelines today on managing schools during our current COVID-19 crisis. And here at The Village School, the survey sent to our families over a week ago closes on Friday, January 22.

Please be sure to check your email for the parent/guardian survey, sent out on January 8th. To those that have completed the survey, “Thank you.” We need everyone’s input to build out our program and to design a schedule for delivering on-campus and on-line instruction when the day arrives that we can launch a hybrid model.

If you have not already done so, please complete the attached form for sibling enrollment for next school year, 2021-2022, and return by January 28th. In addition, tell your friends that we will conduct our annual meetings for prospective families interested in enrolling for the next school on Thursday, January 28, 6:00 PM and repeat the meeting on Saturday, January 30, 10:30 AM.

Thank you for being a part of The Village School community. We are a public charter school and clearly you and your family have made a choice to be here. With our collaboration among staff and families, we strive to make this a place where children want to be, whether on-line or in-person.

Sincerely,

Sibling Enrollment Forms

If you would like to enroll one of your children in the Village School for 2021-22, please complete the attached form for sibling enrollment and return by January 28th. The form can be filled out online, saved, and emailed back to us. This form is not required for students who are already enrolled in the Village School.

Village School Kitchen

Blueberries are a SUPER FOOD!!! Every summer my family picks and freezes over 50 lbs of blueberries to last us through the winter. I have tried drying them in our home dehydrator with dismal results. Hummingbird Wholesale recently introduced me to dried blueberries from Sunset Valley Organics in Corvallis and they are amazing! With no added preservatives, their texture is fabulous and they actually taste like blueberries. I'm super excited to share them with you all in the VSK muffin mix this week. Huge thanks to VS parent Jo Rodgers for meeting with me on Friday to turn the kitchen into a fun mess of flour while mixing up many gallons of muffin mix.

I hope you all enjoy making the mix up at home. We'd love to see photos of your children baking and eating them!

Library News

WANTED: Village School Library books!

I need your help getting back Village School library books that were checked out last year. Some students still had books checked out when in-person school ended in March, and several families came in and checked out books while school was closed.

Please check around your home for any books that belong to the Village School. They will have a label on the back that says “The Village School” with a barcode.

An example of the Village School Barcode

There will be a bin outside the office to return books. If you cannot get them back to school, please let me know and we can make other arrangements to have books picked up.

Please also contact me if you know books have been damaged or lost. Thank you for your help keeping our library stocked with amazing books!

If your child started participating in OBOB and received a Village School Library book at home but no longer wants to participate, please return the books to school.

Next week we will start preparing to practice battling! Next week will be the last week OBOB will be "open" to new participants.

Parent Council

Parent Council will be having our next meeting on Wednesday, February 10th. Please join us and send questions and ideas about the current school year and how we can support our school community to parentcouncil@eugenevillageschool.org.

Zoom link:

The notes from our last meeting can be found here.

Every Village School parent and guardian is a part of Parent Council - you do not have to be a class representative to attend meetings or to contribute ideas. Every parent is invited to Parent Council meetings when they occur. We hope you will soon be able to come to meet with other caring and committed parents who want to share ideas, build our school community, and contribute to the vitality, growth, and evolution of OUR VILLAGE SCHOOL!

Engage with us on Facebook!

The Village Vine is a collective community forum for the Parent Council which includes all families of the Village School. This is a place for sharing information regarding our school and respectful discussion in support of our children and in support of each other as parents. This is a space to connect and build OUR VILLAGE community. There are some new and adjusted guidelines that will be posted in the group so be sure to make sure to check those out! Please feel welcome to post and share in that spirit. We are currently looking for Moderators and an Admin who can help support the rules and guidelines of the Village Vine.
