Directions to the Alton Baker Park Host Residence/Nearby Nature Yurt/Learnscape: Turn into the main Alton Baker Park entrance or follow the bike path to the main part of Alton Baker Park. Go east on the road through the park, through the parking lots and down the road that says Dead End. Go past the Cuthbert Amphitheater. The Park Host Residence (our office), our yurt, and the Learnscape are on the right, immediately after the Community Gardens. Greetings from Elemental Play. We hope you are enjoying every moment of this summer season. Summer Art Camp was a great success, thank you to everyone who participated. Your child's art work is ready to be picked up, so give Erika a call at 541-484-CLAY, to arrange a time for pick-up. Although most of us wish we could have an endless summer, Fall is just around the corner, so now is the time to register for Fall Classes at Elemental Play. Elemental Play is also looking for teachers who would like to organize art workshops to be taught in the studio. Please call or email for further details.
After-School Program:
3:30 - 5:30pm,Tue., Sept. 14th. Students will learn clay, fused glass, mosaic, batik, and much more. The cost is $120, for a six week session. Hand Building for Children: 3:30 - 4:30, Weds., Sept. 15th. Discover clay while learning the three hand building techniques. Learn to pinch, slab, coil, and create some combination pieces. Best for children ages 4 - 12 years old. The cost is $65 for 6 weeks, all materials included. Wheel Throwing: 5 - 7 pm, Weds., Sept. 15th. Begin to throw pots on an electric wheel. Learn centering, throwing, trimming, and glazes. Ages 10 and up welcome (including Adults!). The cost is $95, which includes the clay. Open Studio for Adults: 7 - 10pm, Weds., Sept. 15th, A time for adults to get together, create some art, and have some Fun! Let your inspiration grow with old friends, and make some new friends, as well. Your first visit is free. The cost of a 5 visit punch card is $50, and $30 buys you a 25 lb. bag of clay. The Board meets every third Tuesday of the month. The Village School Board of Directors has ultimate legal and financial responsibility for the school. The Board is composed of teachers, parents, and community members. Primary Board responsibilities include maintaining the legal and financial security of the school, long-range planning and development, and creating and overseeing the implementation of policies and procedures of the school that are consistent with the school’s pedagogy, community vision, and its charter. The Children’s Program Initiative to Bring Dental Services to Uninsured Students: ODS and the Oregon Educators Benefit Board (OEBB) are launching a joint effort, The Children’s Program, to provide access to basic dental services for uninsured 6-12 year olds at no charge once they have been enrolled in the program. The Children’s Program provides access to basic dental services on an as-needed basis for uninsured children aged six through twelve who reside in Oregon. If eligible, each child will be assigned a dentist and may receive care during his or her eligibility period. The child’s parent or legal guardian will receive a letter notifying them of the child’s ID number and dentist’s name and phone # so they may schedule an appointment.
